Not really sure what importance this has to the question at hand
( = 1, 2, 3, ...) are the exact states (microstates) that the system can occupy, generally, these can be regarded as discrete quantum states of the system.
so I removed it. If I'm wrong correct me MatthewHoza 17:13, 28 April 2009 (EDT)
